Organisation Note

The Governance Initiative builds infrastructure for governance learning and public problem-solving.

This note is designed for governments, funders, practitioners, solution providers, academic partners and advisors who need a concise entry point before a deeper conversation.

Discuss with TGI

Core mission

The Governance Initiative builds the infrastructure, capabilities and networks that enable governments and governance actors to learn, coordinate and solve public problems more effectively over time.

Why TGI exists

Government systems often learn in practice, but that learning does not reliably travel, compound or survive transfers. Teams repeatedly diagnose similar problems, rebuild similar solutions and lose practical knowledge when people move or projects end.

Operating thesis

TGI treats governance learning as infrastructure. The work begins with a real public problem, supports embedded talent, runs disciplined Gov Lab cycles, captures reviewed knowledge in Gov Collective and converts field learning into Gov Cap products.

What TGI builds

  • Governance Talent Network: embedded actors who generate, validate, use and spread practical governance knowledge.
  • Gov Lab engagements: structured problem-solving cycles around named public problems.
  • Gov Collective: a curated source of truth for playbooks, solution pathways, requests, profiles and learning products.
  • Solution Architecture: the function that translates a public problem into a context-aware response.
  • Gov Cap: field-derived capacity building for people inside government and people working with government.

What TGI is not

TGI is not a consulting firm that leaves behind reports, a public open directory where anyone can upload solutions, a permanent implementer replacing government systems or a campaign site built around exaggerated claims.

Engagement readiness

A useful first conversation identifies the problem space, the public-system counterpart, the review rhythm, the kind of evidence already available and the decision points where TGI could support learning without taking ownership away from government.

How stakeholders can engage

Governments can explore Gov Lab partnerships and state learning systems. Funders can support patient infrastructure. Practitioners can contribute field learning. Solution providers can submit evidence-backed models for review. Academic partners can shape evaluation and learning standards. Advisors can offer critique, introductions and field-informed judgement.

What to read next

  • Government or funder: read Gov Lab, Model and Evidence before a partnership conversation.
  • Practitioner or solution provider: read Gov Collective and What to Share before sharing material.
  • Academic partner or advisor: read Evidence, Gov Cap and About to understand the learning posture and institutional guardrails.

This note focuses on the public model and does not include partner-specific or engagement-specific details. Sensitive operational material should be shared only through appropriate private channels.
